Getting started
Before registering for Artomatic, take a moment to thoroughly read these guidelines. It is important to understand how the registration process works and to make sure you complete all of the necessary steps. For visual artists, this process is broken into three parts: online registration, shift selection and on-site site selection. You must complete all parts of this process to participate in Artomatic.

Artomatic 2009 event dates
May 29 -July 5, 2009
55 M Street, S.E.
Washington, DC 20003

Visual Artist Commitment
As a visual artist participating in Artomatic, you are required to:
• Pay a $99 registration fee. No refunds.
• Attend an Artomatic participant orientation session in conjunction with site selection.
• Serve three participation shifts (about 15 hours total) to help stage Artomatic.

Online registration
Registration for Artomatic will open Friday, March 27, at noon Eastern time. Registration is online only. Deadline: Open until filled

All Artomatic participants must:
• Read and accept the Terms and Conditions.
• Submit payment online. DO NOT MAIL PAYMENT.
• Choose at least three participation shifts (totaling about 15 hours).
• Submit artist's profile, including your real name and working phone numbers and email address.
• Supply a valid e-mail address to receive an E-mail Confirmation Receipt, which will include the date and time that you need to attend Site Selection.
• Print the E-mail Confirmation Receipt and Status Report and bring them to Site Selection as verification.
• Submit artist statement. (optional)
• Submit selected image or MP3. (optional)

By registering for Artomatic, all artists agree that their work may be photographed or filmed and used for marketing or publicity purposes. All of the work at Artomatic is shown at the artist’s risk. For more information, see the FAQs.

Groups and Artomatic
Artomatic does not set space aside for groups or allow group registration, with a few preapproved exceptions. As the Artomatic mission is to represent individuals, each separate artist must register for the event and come to site selection. If individual artists register at the same time and are assigned to the same site selection time, they can try to choose spaces near one another.

Artists who want to identify with one another may:
•    Come up with an identifying label that can be at each artist’s individual space.
•    Make maps of where all the members are located and sponsor tours and/or artists' talks.
•    Display a Web address or a map showing your members’ locations.

Problems with registration
If you need assistance completing your online registration, visit our FAQs. If you can't solve the problem, e-mail registration@artomatic.org.

Participation shifts
Each visual artist at Artomatic must serve three participation shifts, about 15 hours in total.
Once you have registered online, make sure you are logged in and select your participation shifts under “My AOM.” Participation shifts will be available during installation, the event and deinstallation.

Artists should select their participation shifts as early as possible, as some shifts fill up sooner than others. Once you have selected your shifts, print a copy of your “status report” -- showing your registration and shift selection status -- from your my AOM page.

Site selection
Site selection dates
• Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26, 2009 (date and time assigned at registration)
• Overflow or late site selection: Monday, April 27, and Tuesday, April 28, 5 p.m.-7 p.m.

When to attend
Each participant will receive an assigned day and time to select their own exhibit space at Artomatic. This way, you will have the opportunity to select a space that inspires you. Please be prompt. Latecomers will be accommodated at the discretion of the Registration Committee. Bring both your E-mail Confirmation Receipt and status report with you to site selection.
How to select your site
Each artist should check in at the first floor registration table. The volunteer behind the table will confirm your payment and that you have signed up for all your participation shifts. Artists will receive an introduction on Artomatic participation, attend a short orientation and select their exhibit space. Please set aside about two hours time for this process. You must attend the orientation to participate in Artomatic.
If you are unable to attend site selection at your assigned date and time, you must make arrangements to attend a session later in the weekend, or an overflow site selection evening on Monday, April 27, and Tuesday, April 28, from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Please be prompt.

All installation artists will need to leave a $100 deposit check at the intake desk on site selection weekend. The deposit will be returned at Deinstallation after the artist’s area is broom clean. You’ve created an installation if you use materials (i.e., dirt, broken glass, empty beer cans) that may not have any value to you or Artomatic after the event is over.

Installation
Dates: Wednesday, April 29, through Tuesday, May 26, 2009
Hours: Wednesdays-Sundays, noon-10 p.m. (no installation allowed on Mondays or Tuesdays except for May 25the and 26th)

All artist materials MUST come through the loading dock and the freight elevator. NO supplies are permitted through the front lobby of 55 M Street. Failure to obey this rule may jeopardize your participation in Artomatic.
To maintain security and integrity of the event, no art is allowed to leave Artomatic at any time during the event. Artists will not be able to remove their art early. Do not include art in Artomatic if you will need to remove it anytime between May 29-July 5.

Deinstallation
Wednesday, July 8, through Sunday, July 19, 2009.
Wednesdays and Thursdays: 5 pm - 10 pm
Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays: Noon - 10 pm
(no deinstallation allowed on Mondays or Tuesdays)

Participants will need to de-install work during open hours between July 8 and July 19, 2009. What you have added to the space must be removed.
The space must be left clean and orderly.

Artists who selected to do an installation will have their deposit check returned upon completing de-installation.
